A referral is not required to see your primary care physician (PCP). Our specialists do require referrals. To understand the difference please see our page "Who's my Doctor?" Even if an insurance company does not require a referral to see a patient, the referring doctor (usually your PCP) should send over a script indicating:

• Diagnosis
• Referring Doctor
• Patient Name
• Patient Date of Birth

For complex problems (endocrine, developmental, genetic) more information is required. You should ask your doctor's office to send over the following:

• Patient Demographic Information (name, DOB, address, insurance)
• Any labs conducted in the past year
• Growth Charts
• Doctors letters for the past year

This allows our doctors to evaluate the necessity of the referral. In addition, this information can help us see your child in a timely manner. We also ask that you contact your insurance company to find out if any special forms need to be filled out by your PCP and how many specialist visits per year they cover. Also, ask about your copay.
