Generic tadalafil is taken by men who have issues of erectile dysfunction. Generic tadalafil belongs to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors, and it is known at the market by the brand name Cialis for erectile dysfunction. Generic tadalafil is also actually used for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and it exists under the brand name Adcirca.
Generic tadalafil is actually the 3rd male impotence drug to be approved by the US FDA on November 2003 – the first two being Viagra (sildenafil) and Levitra (vardenafil). Just like the first two erectile dysfunction drugs, generic tadalafil is advised to be used only as an “as needed” drug. Also, generic tadalafil is the only one of the three ED drugs that is taken as a once-per-day medication. Furthermore, in May 2009, generic tadalafil was approved by the US FDA for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Even if all the three drugs meant for erectile dysfunction inhibit PDE5, what makes generic tadalafil entirely different is that it has a longer half life of around 17 hours. Sildenafil and vardenafil only has 4 to 5 hours half life. This makes generic tadalafil have a characteristic longer timeframe of effectivity, thus earning the “weekend pill” nickname. Moreover, the longer half life is the very reason why generic tadalafil is being studied for daily therapy in relieving patients suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension. This is because sildenafil is approved in many countries as a 3-times-a-day therapy for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension, and so researchers believe that generic tadalafil might even be more beneficial to them.
Generic tadalafil’s most common side effects include stomach pain or discomfort, indigestion, acid reflux, burping, headache, muscle aches, back pain, flushing, and a runny or stuffy nose. These side effects of generic tadalafil actually show that the PDE5 is inhibited, causing the blood vessels to widen (vasodilate), and this typically disappears after 2 hours or more. Muscle aches and back pain may be felt around 12 to 24 hours after taking generic tadalafil, and these usually go away after 2 days.
Before taking generic tadalafil, you must know some things to keep yourself safe from harm. You must not take generic tadalafil if you are allergic to tadalafil or its other inactive ingredients. Do not take generic tadalafil if you are also taking nitrate medications for your heart, if you have any issues with your penis (deformity, disease), if you have eye problems that caused you to lose vision, angina, liver or kidney issues, sickle cell disease, if you had bone cancer or leukemia, etc.
When taking generic tadalafil, keep in mind that you and your sexual partner still has to engage in foreplay. Generic tadalafil alone will not cause you to have an erection, which is why sexual arousal is still required to achieve desired results. Before you take generic tadalafil, be careful not to drink huge amounts of alcohol, since it can impede the chance to get an erection. Also, do not drink grapefruit juice when you take generic tadalafil because there is a substance in the juice that might increase the amount of generic tadalafil in your blood which may make side effects more prominent. Last but not least, never take generic tadalafil if you are currently using other drugs that also treat erectile dysfunction.
