EndocrinologyThe Division of Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes offers evaluation and care of children with disorders of the endocrine system and its secretions called hormones. Dr. Alan Rice, a board certified pediatric endocrinologist, specializes in treating disorders of the endocrine system, such as adrenal disorders, glucose homeostasis disorders (diabetes and hypoglycemia), metabolic disorders, pituitary disorders, parathyroid disorders, sex hormone disorders, and thyroid disorders in children. The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes offers evaluation and care of children with diabetes and endocrine disorders. The diabetes program uses a team approach with the service of a registered nurse, a nutritionist and medical assistants. Continuing education in diabetes is provided for patients and families. The division also provides care for children with other endocrine disorders such as altered growth velocity and thyroid disorders. We are located in suite 315a across the hall from Kid's Healthcare. Dr. Alan Michael Rice is an Assistant Professor and Division Director for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. He was instrumental in providing services through the Making Access Possible Coalition to start evening pediatric endocrine clinics. He has provided intensive diabetes and endocrine care for children in Nevada, California, Arizona, Utah and Guam. Dr. Rice is studying the efficacy of behavioral modification approaches in improving compliance of adolescent diabetes with therapeutic regimens. Dr. Rice teaches and trains Pediatric Residents and medical students in endocrinology. He hopes to expand services for children with diabetes and endocrine disorders by adding an additional Pediatric Endocrinologist to the division in 2006. | |
